Walking With Jesus

lent-2Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John (which was also Jesus’ cousin) But John tried to deter him, saying. ” I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me? Jesus replied, ” Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love, with him I am well pleased.       (Matthew 3:13-17 NIV)

One can honestly say that in Jesus’ three years of ministry that he did a lot of walking. Even before his ministry Jesus was tested in the wildness and was tempted by the devil. After forty days and forty nights he was hungry. No matter what the devil try to temp Jesus he would not break. At the end of those forty days, Jesus words to Satan! For it is written; Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.  After those forty days Jesus began to preach, as well as calling his first disciples to come and follow him. As Jesus was walking  beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake for they were fishermen. Come and follow me Jesus said, and I will send you out to fish for people. At once they left their nets and followed him. Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, and they also drop their nets to follow Jesus. How many of us would do the same as these first disciples, dropping everything that we were doing to follow a man, ( however he was the Son of God) So over time Jesus called twelve men to be his disciples. He then called Philip and Nathanael to follow him as well as, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon called the Zealot, Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot the one who later would be known as a traitor. Over those three years these men spent a lot of time learning from Jesus and I am sure wondering who is this man who they all left everything behind in their own life to follow him. All this walking was more than just physical exercise, it was instilling patience, persistence and soul-sustaining endurance in the one, who was more than human, He was and is the Truth, the Way, and the Life for the world that will come to follow him in time. Can you image to be able to walk the very steps Jesus took, they were not easy ones at that. But to be able to hear the voice of the Risen Lord as he travels and teaching all who would listen about the one and only Awesome God, the Creator of the Universe, the one who ,loves you, yes you and me more than we can ever imagine, because we are his children.

Grace and peace to you my friends
