Then the Lord called Samuel. Samuel answered, ” Here I am. And he ran to Eli and said, Here I am, you called me.” But Eli said, “I did not call, go back and lie down,” So he went and lay down. Again the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, you called me.” My son, “Eli said, I did not call go back and lie down. Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord. The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, Here I am, you called me.” Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. So Eli told Samuel, ” Go and lie down, and if he calls you ,say, “Speak, Lord for your servant is listening.” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel!” “Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
Samuel was a child when he heard the Lord calling him. How often as Christians do we say these words to the Lord that we are listening, and are we truly listening to what he might be saying. Is that because we are over committed our own lives that we only half listen. As adults when we begin to work, we go out with friends to have a good time, because we feel we work hard we deserve to have some fun. Next we get married, and we still work and still enjoy having fun with friends and our spouse. Then we begin to have our family and we get so busy with the demands of life in general that we never truly are listening to the voice of God. How can we possible know what God’s will for our lives if we don’t stop to listen to what he is saying to us. More than ten years ago that is what I began to do to slow down, take the time to fast and seek God’s will for my own life. The first time I heard someone calling my name I look around my home and I realize that no one was home except for me. This happen twice, so then on a Sunday morning after our church’s service I ask our pastor can we talk. I began sharing what I heard, I thought he was going to tell me I was crazy, but he did not. ( I also told he I was too afraid to talk with God almighty, because I knew I was a sinner) He ask me if I remember the story about Samuel and I did, so he told me the next time I heard that voice say Your servant is listening. Well guess what it happen again and that is what I said, your servant is listening. Thru my dreams I had seen what God was calling me to do.
I know when we all seek God and truly listening what he is saying and what he has called all of us to do in this world, we will begin to hear the voice of God. You see God has a job just for you that no one but you are able to do it, I don’t know what that is but God does. You just need to Seek and You will found your answer.
