Early Christians often met violent opposition and Peter’s letter comforted and encouraged Christians who were being persecuted for their faith. In the book of 1 Peter 2:16 Peter tells us to live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil, live as God’s slaves. Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers. fear God.
Today we celebrate the birthday of American our nation, a nation where we are free to live, free to work anywhere we want, come and go as we want and more important worship God the way we choose as Christians. However many men and women died to keep us free, this day means more than a cookout with family or friends, more than people getting drunk and doing something they should not do, and more important than fireworks. If you never had a chance to talk with a vet I encourage you to do so to listen to the terrible stories of what wars can do to you in a personal way. How many people reading this post can say that the know the words to our country Anthem Star Spangled Banner- written by Frances Scott Key
The words were written in 1814 by Francis Scott Key, who had been inspired by the sight of the American flag still flying over Fort McHenry after a night of heavy British bombardment. The text was immediately set to a popular melody of the time, “To Anacreon in Heaven.”
The National Anthem consists of four verses. On almost every occasion only the first verse is sung.
Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
Many have sung or hear these words especially during a baseball game, do you truly understand the meaning to these words. We remain free because of so many who went off to war and never came home to their families, and if some did come home they were never the same either. So I encourage you to say thank you to any vet that you see or somehow come in contact with, because without their sacrifice for our nation we would not be celebrating this July 4. Please stay safe.
