Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them an expert in the law; tested him with this question: Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment, and the second is like it, Love your neighbor as yourself. All the law and the Prophets hand on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:34-40
Dietrich Bonhoeffer was one of the great Christian thinkers of the twentieth century. He gave up his safe job as a teacher in America at the outbreak of the second world war to return to Germany. He was deeply aware of the sacrifices it would mean for him because of his opposition to the Nazi rule. He found great comfort in the compassion of his friends whose reputations and lives were at stake because they visited him in prison.
Love is made up of little things. Although romantic love is an important matter, for some the most important thing in the world, is that God’s love that worked in the thought and hearts of His disciples, also manifested in the little and in deeds. Words and deeds mean the world to those who receive them. Are you having doubts; are you in depths of despair because of finances, relationships, or confusion? Nevertheless look for even the slightest ways in which you can show God’s love to one another. It will benefit them and you, if you remain in Christ and His love.
