Having peace is not as complicated as we sometimes make it. Though we may not always realize it, we already have peace. I believe peace is part of our DNA and life force. While this may seem far-fetched, take a quick journey with me to understand how.
Think of a moment when you have settled down after a long day of activity. The space you are in is quiet. Your thoughts begin to slow down. You close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and finally release a sigh of relief. That is peace. It didn’t take a great deal of time or effort to arrive there, but it did take awareness and discipline.
I believe this was the psalmist’s objective when he spoke of peace. He wasn’t sending peace or giving peace. It was as if he was saying, ‘May the peace within you be activated.” When that peace is activated, our ability to withstand is strengthened. Our ability to help others discover their peace is strengthened. As that peace is activated, hope has the capability to last longer, no matter what the world is around us.
Amen!
