Mercy and Grace

Imagine a courtroom; directly in front of you sits a stern judge in a black robe. You stand, knees knocking and anxious. You can hardly breathe. You know you are guilty. There is a roaring in your ears. It is just a matter of how much time you will serve in prison. Your life as you know it is effectively over. BANG! The gavel comes down and the judge says, “Pardoned.” Oh, the joy that fills your heart. The heartfelt elation enters your whole being. It is hard to take in.

When we realize that even in the middle of our sins God showered us with unfathomable mercy and grace by sending Jesus to die in our place, it should be apparent to us that we should extend both grace and mercy to those who offend us. The grievance may be small or immense. It may seem insurmountable. By offering forgiveness we help ourselves more than the offender. It isn’t easy, but when we look to God’s example of love, we can trust that it is to our benefit to model him.

Blessings to you my friends
