God Is Know as El Roi

Genesis.pngAbram’s wife Sarai had a servant girl named Hagar, and Sarai told her to laid with her husband because Sarai was unable to have a child. Sarai grew impatience waiting for God to bless her and her husband with a child. After Hagar did what she was told to do Sarai grew angry at her and her husband Abram, so Hagar ran away from her.

The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert, it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. And he said, Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going? I’m running away from my mistress Sarai, she answered. Then the angel of the Lord told her,.”Go back to your mistress and submit to her. The angel added, I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.” The angel of the Lord also said to her. You are now pregnant and you will give birth to a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery. He will be a wild donkey of a man, his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility towards all his brothers. She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her, ” You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have seen the One who sees me.” This is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi, it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered.                                                  (Genesis 16: 7-14)

No matter how difficult our circumstances, we never solve life’s problem by running away. God will find us, God knows us by name, God sees and hears our cries, God is concerned about our burdens and our cares, God knows our future.  In the book by Wendy Blight she ask this: Are you, like Hagar in a place of wildness today? Take a moment and reflect on your own life right now, right this very moment. We find El Roi throughout the pages of Scriptures. Today we can find him in one of the favorite chapter in the book of Psalm, and it is Psalm 23 The Lord is My Shepherd, and he can be your today. El Roi is also Elohim our Creator. He knows us inside and out. Nothing is hidden. Our every hurt, doubt, fear, and need is on display before him. So when our Creator El Roe “sees” our need. He will come to us, meet us, feed us, refresh us, and renew us, just as He did Hagar.

In the midst of his suffering, David wrote your road and your staff, comfort me. (Psalm 23:4) The rod and staff are tools of the shepherd’s trade. The shepherd wielded the rod to protect his sheep by driving off wild animals. Clearly, the rod and staff in the hands God gave David comfort and should give us assurance as well. God never slumbers. He never takes a catnap. His eyes are always upon His kingdom.

Broken Dreams & Broken Promises

Psalm 42.jpgIt has been a difficult day my Lord to say the lease, because when others seem to have forgotten you and what you long for is someone to reach out to say I do care, and truly mean it. For someone else who seems all they want to do is to judge you and you seem to say to yourself, they are not walking in my shoes to understand this deep pain of mine. So I open up your scriptures to read the following words that seem to ring so true for me today.

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?  My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”. These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the “Mighty One” with shouts of joy and praise, among the festive throng. Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. My soul is downcast within me, therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan the heights of Hermon–from Mount Mizar. Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls, all your waves and breakers have swept over me. By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me–a prayer to the God of my life. I say to God my Rock, Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy? My bones suffer mortal agony as my foes taunt  me saying to me all day long, “Where is your God.?” Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

Dear Lord

Help me in this holy time, at your feet, to pour my soul out to you. Enable me to be transparent. I surrender every burden, fear, question, and emotion. Empty me of myself. Free me from all the clutter in my heart and mind. Consume me with Your Spirit now and everyday of my life.

Amen

Praising God

Psalm 57.jpgGreat is God’s love, reaching to the heavens, your faithfulness reaches to the skies. I can feel wonderfully secure in love that has no limits–no boundaries beyond which it ceases to exit. Your faithfulness also has no bounds, so it will never run short. My response to all these wonderful gifts is my worshipping and singing praises to you my Lord. I know that you take much pleasure in our praising you, which blesses both you and me. The more I seem to praise you all my worries seems to fade away from my mind and all I am thinking of is praising you and you alone. Your love not only reaches to the heavens but also descends upon us from heavenly realms. No matter how difficult my life can be at times your love seems to be sufficient for me. I look forward to the day when I will return to you Lord to worship you in Glory and to be with you forever in perfect paradise.

I will praise you, Lord, among the nations, I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens, your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, let your glory be over all the earth.         Psalm 57:9-ll

Praise the Lord, my soul

Psalm 103.jpgThere are times in our lives when we find it difficult to Praise our Lord, when our pain within the very being of our soul, that is when we find it so difficult. This is when I find that reading the book of Psalm brings me comfort. King David was one of the writers for this book, it is a book that is filled with prayers, many prayers, as well as songs that truly express the full range of human emotion, that we all seem to go thru. It represent personal journals of the different writers and their relationship with God. The thoughts and feelings they express helps people like you and me draw near to the Lord just like they did. I personally have been on a difficult journey in my own life, just trying to understand it all, and how painful this has been and still is, and not having answers of where I am going and just trying to understand it all. As I opened up my Bible and just thinking of what I want to say to God and longing for that deep relationship with him, I came across these words that King David wrote and it reminds me of myself.

Praise the Lord, my soul, all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—-who forgives all your sins, and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things, so that your youth is renewed light the eagles. The Lord works righteousness and justice for all oppressed. He made known his ways to Moses; his deeds to the people of Israel: The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever, he does not treat us as our sins deserve, or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth so great is his love for those who fear him, as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him, for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field, the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children–with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding who obey his word. Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will. Praise the Lord, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the Lord, my soul.             (Psalm 103 NIV)

It really doesn’t matter where I am going, or how long it all may take me, all I need to do is simply Trust My Lord day by day.

Difficult Times

Nahum.pngIt is a difficult time for me Lord, I am in the valley in my life, and how I long to be on your mountain top, and to glorify your name. However during this time I have come to notice a scripture from the book of Nahum in the old testament and it reads as follows The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. With the pain I seem to face all around me I do know one thing and this is to just hide myself in your loving arms. I truly don’t understand all the whys in my life but I do know this one thing, as I remember from the book of Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. As I am walking this journey in my life I know that you are walking along side me, preparing me to do your will, and yes so many times it is so hard, but I know with God all this are Possible, and I can do all things thru Christ who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13) Lord give me the strength to go thru the valley so that I can once again be on your mountain top, and even when I am in the pit of despair there also I will praise your Name, because you are the GREAT I AM

Hope

Hope.pngWhen God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, I will surely bless you and give you many descendants. And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised. People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts and end to all argument. Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where one forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.

Hebrews 6:13-20

Sometimes when life is very difficult for any of us it is very hard for us to have hope in our future. We feel that no matter what we say or do we think to ourselves, what is the use, nothing for me will ever change for me. What I can tell you is this that there is always hope for all of us, we need to only believe that we serve an Awesome God, that he loves all of his children and the fact of the matter is this, that God has never broken a promise to his children. Jesus tells us in the gospel of Matthew 6:33 But first seek ye the kingdom of God and all of his righteousness and all of these things will be added unto you. In other words look to God and God only to supply all of our needs in this world, you can never go wrong with God.
