And the word of the Lord came to him. “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He replied, I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too. The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. (1 Kings 19:9b-12)
God is the Creator of the Universe, yet he choose to make His humble home in our hearts. It is there you know him most intimately, it is there God speaks to you and me in holy whispers. He knows this is more than we can even imagine, that someone so great and majestic would choose to live in someone so small and even so sinful. It is even so hard for me to imagine you Lord living within my heart, it is something at times that I struggle with to understand. Yet in spite of my short comings and regardless of me being a sinner you choose to dwell within my heart. It is times like this Lord in the quiet of the morning or perhaps in the evening that my spirit longs to be with just you. It is during these times my spirit hungry to hear your voice in guiding me to understand the “Great I Am”. You are living in my heart because you deeply desire intimacy with me and I with you. I know that I am weak, and easily distracted by so many things in this world. Yet I want you to help me to hear your gentle whispers in my heart. I need to be still and very quite during these times to feel your presence, to Be Still and Know that I Am God (Psalm 46:10)
Grace and Peace to You My Friends
The words of Jesus taken from the Gospel of Matthew 25:35-40 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you? The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did fro one of the least of these brother and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
For the last many weeks we have seen so much horrible things happen on the news each day, from hurricanes, wildfire, earthquake, and even deadly shootings and many will say where is God when we need him? Take a good look around my friends and you can see him everywhere. After any tragedy that we see around us we can also see many people being the hands and feet of Christ, during and after hurricanes and even today you still can see many people helping the ones that are in need, neighbors helping neighbors, and even strangers helping someone they do not even know. After the earthquake we can also see the same others thinking of someone else long before they think of themselves. During the shooting in Las Vegas we have heard so many different stories of strangers coming to the aide of someone they don’t even know and even some sacrificing their own lives to save another and through this horrible acts of one man you can see the love of Christ pouring out among one another. Strangers standing in line to give blood, others handing food out to those same people as they wait. When any of us see someone in need we are called to act to help someone else. Christ lives in each of us and when we become the hands and feet of Christ we become more like him in many ways. There are so many ways if we just think for a moment we are able to help someone such as helping at your food pantry, giving the clothes you no longer want or need to a complete stranger, many places during the cold months have a coat drive, or collect hats and gloves for children. At Christmas time the Marines do a drive called Toys for Tots, donate food to a church during the holidays and anytime through out the year. What about a animal shelter God wants us to also help his animals by giving anyway we possible can. How about visiting a neighbor who may live alone, or a nursing home where many residents never get any visitor. God gives us many ways for us to become his hands and feet by doing his work here on earth. And thru it all just a simple hug to another who is hurting so deeply is something they really need at that time. In the book of Romans 12:13 the Apostle Paul tells us Share with the Lord’s people who are in need . Practice hospitality.
