Being The Hands & Feet of Christ

Matthew 25.pngThe words of Jesus taken from the Gospel of Matthew 25:35-40 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you? The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did fro one of the least of these brother and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

For the last many weeks we have seen so much horrible things happen on the news each day, from hurricanes, wildfire, earthquake, and even deadly shootings and many will say where is God when we need him? Take a good look around my friends and you can see him everywhere. After any tragedy that we see around us we can also see many people being the hands and feet of Christ, during and after hurricanes and even today you still can see many people helping the ones that are in need, neighbors helping neighbors, and even strangers helping someone they do not even know. After the earthquake we can also see the same others thinking of someone else long before they think of themselves. During the shooting in Las Vegas we have heard so many different stories of strangers coming to the aide of someone they don’t even know and even some sacrificing their own lives to save another and through this horrible acts of one man you can see the love of Christ pouring out among one another. Strangers standing in line to give blood, others handing food out to those same people as they wait.  When any of us see someone in need we are called to act to help someone else. Christ lives in each of us and when we become the hands and feet of Christ we become more like him in many ways. There are so many ways if we just think for a moment we are able to help someone such as helping at your food pantry, giving the clothes you no longer want or need to a complete stranger, many places during the cold months have a coat drive, or collect hats and gloves for children. At Christmas time the Marines do a drive called Toys for Tots, donate food to a church during the holidays and anytime through out the year. What about a animal shelter God wants us to also help his animals by giving anyway we possible can. How about visiting a neighbor who may live alone, or a nursing home where many residents never get any visitor. God gives us many ways for us to become his hands and feet by doing his work here on earth. And thru it all just a simple hug to another who is hurting so deeply is something they really need at that time. In the book of Romans 12:13 the Apostle Paul tells us Share with the Lord’s people who are in need . Practice hospitality.

GOD KNOWS YOUR NAME

Isaiah 49Isaiah was a prophet from the Old Testament, and the most eloquent of the prophets, Isaiah, analyzed the failures of all the nations around him and pointed to a future Messiah who would bring peace to the nation and the earth. As I read the book of Isaiah chapter 49:15-16 this is what it says: Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she borne? Through she may forget, I will never forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands. When we as humans go thru the difficult times we seem to begin to wonder does anyone care about me, does anyone care if I’m live or die, I know most of us have said these words if not out loud so that someone else could hear them, we have said them to ourselves.  Let me tell you my friends, you are a Child of the Most High King Jesus Christ, you are apart of the best royal family that anyone can ever be apart of it, and it doesn’t matter where you family came from, rather you were born a rich person or a poor person or anything in between. All of you who are reading these words need to know and understand that it doesn’t matter who you are, what your past is like, what you may have done, the sins we have committed in the past or in the future God loves YOU! he sent his one and only son into the world to died for all of our sins, so that once we leave this earth we will be united with him for all of eternity and that is one family that you belong to forever and ever. There is more to your life than you ever thought. There is more to your story than what you have read. You have some much to give to others, God the God of the Universe has created you for a reason, you just need to figure that small part out. God took the time to shape you and mold you for his own purpose, a job that only you can do and no one else. Your life matter regardless of what anyone may of said to you, you do have a purpose, you are special. Turn your eyes upon Jesus, and see him shining brightly on your future. When you are weak or weary, just call upon him and he will hear you. God is preparing a place in his kingdom for all of his children, you do not need to worry. There is joy in knowing the Risen Lord Jesus Christ and he delights in you now, but this joy will be astronomically magnified when you join him in glory. The joy you will experience in heaven is so far beyond anything you have known on earth that it is indescribable. Nothing can rob you of this glorious inheritance. But, in the mean time while you are still on earth remember how much that Jesus loves “YOU” and their is nothing you will ever go thru that is he unaware of, he knows of the joys you will have as well as the many sorrows and trials that you will endure, but never doubt for a single second that

Being A Witness for Christ

Acts 1.jpgThe book of Acts continues the history of Jesus’ followers in the period after Jesus’ ascension. Peter and Paul soon emerged as leaders of the rapidly growing church, which flourished and spread despite, and sometimes because of persecution of Jewish leaders and Roman authorities. These followers of Jesus at this time didn’t look like a leader did they, they never had an high school education and never went to college, which in fact never exist at that time. However, in spite of their short comings they seem to have God still use each of them to do mighty work for his kingdom. If we take a moment to think about it where were these same disciples on the night Jesus was be trade. When Jesus was in the garden to pray to God for strength they were asleep, after he was arrested they all seem to disappeared. Peter that night be trade his friend, his master not just once but three times, and when he was crucified where did most of these men go to, where they at the foot of the cross as Jesus was dying. After dying on the cross his body was laid in the tomb and for awhile the disciples all were in hiding. But six weeks later their lives all change in the upper room on Pentecost, as the Holy Spirt came upon all of Jesus disciples and other followers as well, their lives would never be the same. The same thing goes for us, once we accepted Jesus into our own lives we begin to change, and we too will never be the same again. As Max Lucado tells us in his book “Out Live Your Life”

You hillbillies will be my witness, You uneducated and simple folk will be my witness, You who once called me crazy, who shouted at me in the boat doubted me in the Upper Room.  You temperamental, parochial net casters and tax collectors, You will be my witness. You will spearhead a movement that will explode like a just-opened fire hydrant of Jerusalem and spill into the ends of the earth, into the streets of Paris, the districts of Rome, and the ports of Athens, Istanbul, Shanghai, and Buenos Aires. You will be a part of something so mighty, controversial, and head spinning that two millennia from now a middle-age redheaded author riding in the exit row of a flight from Boston to Dallas will type this question on his laptop?

Does Jesus still do it?

Does he use simple folks like you and me to change the world? We suffer from such ordinariness and my answer besides what is written in this book by Max Lucado, is yes Jesus still does use ordinary simply folks like us to share the good news of the Gospel. As long as you and I have the willing heart to serve Christ he will use us, to tell other about the “Great I Am” To tell all that their is nothing that you or I could ever do so horrible that is love cannot penetrate it.  Just open up to the book of Romans 8:38-39 to read the following words, by Paul the Apostle: For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. When we come to know this kind of love we want to shout it from the mountain top and pass it on to all and I mean all who will listen, and my friend some will and some won’t listen to what you need to share with them, but that is okay we simply plant the seed of God’s love into their hearts and we allow God to do what God does best allow it to take root and grow. The words to a hymn that I have personally sung many times by Dan Schutte: Here I am Lord, Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night, I will go, Lord, if you lead me, I will hold your people in my heart. Beautiful words, God has been calling in the night, are you willing to witness to others what he has done and how much he loves you and all of his children, I am willing to go as he leads me down the road. Will you?

Are You Listening

1 Samuel.png Then the Lord called Samuel. Samuel answered, ” Here I am. And he ran to Eli and said, Here I am, you called me.” But Eli said, “I did not call, go back and lie down,” So he went and lay down. Again the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, you called me.” My son, “Eli said, I did not call go back and lie down. Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord. The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, Here I am, you called me.” Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. So Eli told Samuel, ” Go and lie down, and if he calls you ,say, “Speak, Lord for your servant is listening.” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel!” “Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

Samuel was a child when he heard the Lord calling him. How often as Christians do we say these words to the Lord that we are listening, and are we truly listening to what he might be saying. Is that because we are over committed our own lives that we only half listen. As adults when we begin to work, we go out with friends to have a good time, because we feel we work hard we deserve to have some fun. Next we get married, and we still work and still enjoy having fun with friends and our spouse. Then we begin to have our family and we get so busy with the demands of life in general that we never truly are listening to the voice of God. How can we possible know what God’s will for our lives if we don’t stop to listen to what he is saying to us. More than ten years ago that is what I began to do to slow down, take the time to fast and seek God’s will for my own life. The first time I heard someone calling my name I look around my home and I realize that no one was home except for me. This happen twice, so then on a Sunday morning after our church’s service I ask our pastor can we talk. I began sharing what I heard, I thought he was going to tell me I was crazy, but he did not. ( I also told he I was too afraid to talk with God almighty, because I knew I was a sinner)  He ask me if I remember the story about Samuel and I did, so he told me the next time I heard that voice say Your servant is listening. Well guess what it happen again and that is what I said, your servant is listening. Thru my dreams I had seen what God was calling me to do.

I know when we all seek God and truly listening what he is saying and what he has called all of us to do in this world, we will begin to hear the voice of God. You see God has a job just for you that no one but you are able to do it, I don’t know what that is but God does. You just need to Seek and You will found your answer.

Walking With Jesus

lent-2Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John (which was also Jesus’ cousin) But John tried to deter him, saying. ” I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me? Jesus replied, ” Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love, with him I am well pleased.       (Matthew 3:13-17 NIV)

One can honestly say that in Jesus’ three years of ministry that he did a lot of walking. Even before his ministry Jesus was tested in the wildness and was tempted by the devil. After forty days and forty nights he was hungry. No matter what the devil try to temp Jesus he would not break. At the end of those forty days, Jesus words to Satan! For it is written; Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.  After those forty days Jesus began to preach, as well as calling his first disciples to come and follow him. As Jesus was walking  beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake for they were fishermen. Come and follow me Jesus said, and I will send you out to fish for people. At once they left their nets and followed him. Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, and they also drop their nets to follow Jesus. How many of us would do the same as these first disciples, dropping everything that we were doing to follow a man, ( however he was the Son of God) So over time Jesus called twelve men to be his disciples. He then called Philip and Nathanael to follow him as well as, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon called the Zealot, Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot the one who later would be known as a traitor. Over those three years these men spent a lot of time learning from Jesus and I am sure wondering who is this man who they all left everything behind in their own life to follow him. All this walking was more than just physical exercise, it was instilling patience, persistence and soul-sustaining endurance in the one, who was more than human, He was and is the Truth, the Way, and the Life for the world that will come to follow him in time. Can you image to be able to walk the very steps Jesus took, they were not easy ones at that. But to be able to hear the voice of the Risen Lord as he travels and teaching all who would listen about the one and only Awesome God, the Creator of the Universe, the one who ,loves you, yes you and me more than we can ever imagine, because we are his children.
