Come to Jesus

Psalm 118 (5).jpgJesus tells us to come to him when we are hurting, and He will share our pain. Come to him when we are joyful and he will share our joy—multiplying it many times over. He invites you and me just as we are—no matter what shape or condition we are in. We don’t have to clean up our act first, since Jesus already knows the worst about us. When we are hurting you want to be with someone who understands you without condemning you. When you’re happy, you delight in being with someone who loves you enough to celebrate with you. He understands you compassionately and love us exuberantly, so bring more and more of yourself to him. Most people are selective about which parts of themselves they share with God. Some hesitate to bring him the traits they consider shameful. Others are so used to living with painful feelings–loneliness, fear, guilt that it never occurs to us to ask God for help in dealing with all of these things. Still others are so preoccupied with their struggles that they forget that he is always near. There are hurting parts of all of us that God desire to heal. However, some of them have been with us so long that we consider them a part of our own identity. We carry them wherever we go, little awareness. On occasions when you have brought some damaged portion of yourself to him, he will help us to walk with new found freedom. However we are so addicted to certain painful patters that  we cannot break free from them. Only repeatedly exposing them to God’s healing Presence will bring us all to long- term freedom. When that happens we will be released to   experience Joy in much fuller measure. Jesus will share with all of our Joys and multiply it many times over for you and me.

A Time for Everything

Ecclesiastes.jpgThere is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens, a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. What do workers gain from their toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart, yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil–this is the gift of God. I know that everything God does will endure forever, nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.                                             Ecclesiastes 3:1-14

The book of Ecclesiastes strikes a chord in modern people who are studying the meaning of life. All things under the sun lead to meaninglessness and despair, says the Teacher, if you live a life without God. The whole duty of a human being is fear God and keep his commandments.
