Your Identity in Christ

colossians_quietmoments.pngThe Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities, all things have been created through him and for him.                                                  Colossians 1:15-16

You were created to become like Christ. From the very beginning, God’s plan has been to make you like his Son, Jesus. This is your destiny and the third purpose of your life. God announced this intention at Creation. “Then God said, let us make human beings in our image and likeness.” Genesis 1  In all of creation, only human beings, are made in God’s image. This is a great privilege and gives us dignity. Like God, we are spiritual beings, our spirits are immortal and will outlast our earthly bodies: we are intellectual we can think, reason, and solve problems, like God, we are relational, we can give and receive real love, and we moral consciousness, we can discern right from wrong, which makes us accountable to God. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering, And so condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.                                             Ephesians 2:19-22

It’s extremely easy to lose our identity, furthermore, to find ourselves searching all over to find out who we are. We hear stories on the news and we see it in the people we associate with. Additionally, we certainly deal with it in a very private as well as personal way we hear voices, voices which tells us and then projected into the world. We tell the world what we think about ourselves and don’t think for a minute we’re fooling the entire world. We may fool some people, but overall, we aren’t fooling everyone. We hear the voices in our heart, spirit and mind telling us good and bad. We hear the good from those who really love and care for us, we hear that good from God–yet we tend to believe the bad which comes from Satan and from those who don’t care for us. We hold onto that bad stuff. We hear things like, you’re not good enough, not smart enough, not attractive enough, not skinny enough, not rich enough, not with the right family. We’re told we’re not enough! And countless other lies. Hearing those lies long enough and your identity will be formed by it. You feel rejected. Eventually you believe you’re not enough, and they play over and over in your mind. Then we begin to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. We realize in our heart, spirit, and mind we need Jesus to help us through life. My dear friends a recently preach on this exact topic your identity in Christ, below is the link through face book please feel free to watch and listen.https://www.facebook.com/pg/ButtzvilleUMC/videos/?ref=page_internal

The God of All of Our Tomorrows

Isaiah 46.pngListen to me, you descendants of Jacob, all the remnant of the people of Israel, you whom I have upheld since your birth, and have carried since you were born. Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you: I will sustain you and I will rescue you. With whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?  Isaiah 46:4-5

As I read these words this morning from the book of Isaiah, God is not just talking about just the descendants of Jacob. He is talking to all of his children even to all of us of today, that regardless of human beings aging over time, he is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. God compassions never fails, they are new every morning. You and I can begin each day confidently, knowing that his vast reservoir of blessings is full to the brim. This knowledge helps us wait for him, entrusting our long unanswered prayers into God’s care ad keeping.  God assure you that not one of your prayers has slipped past him, unnoticed. He wants you to drink deeply from his fountain of limitless love and unfailing compassion. As you and I wait in his presence, these divine nutrients are freely available. You may drink without cost from the spring of water of life. Although many of our prayers remain unanswered, we can trust in his great faithfulness. God keeps all of his promises in his perfect way and timing. Among other things, God has promised to give you and me peace not as the world tries to give us but only true peace that comes from Jesus Christ, because in the middle of the craziness of the world our soul finds peace with the Master. Even through for all of us tomorrow is never promises to any of us however, it is a wonderful feel deep in our soul, that God is already there, and he has not forsaken any of his children.

Who Am I?

John 1a.pngThere was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will but born of God.                                           John 1:6-13

As we go through difficult times in our own lives, we sometime wonder who were are, at times people and even ourselves put labels on us such as: victim, depress, no good, failure, impossible, strange, addict, I don’t matter, being angry, unforgiveable, anxious ,rejected, weak, refugee, empty, too many regrets and I am sure many of us can even think of more names that are NOT true.

Jesus’ light shines on each and every one of you continually, whether you are aware of it or not. During the wee hours of the night, your thoughts can be distorted. Although you may feel as if you’re enveloped in the darkness, remember that darkness and light are alike to him. You need the light of Jesus more than you need the light of the day. When the way before you seems dark and threatening, you can still trust him to guide you. Walking by faith is important for all to discern the way you should go. Instead of trying to see through clouds of uncertainty fix you eyes on Jesus. He can and will show you a way forward where there appears to be none. As you strive to stay in communication with Jesus thru prayers your soul will begin to open to the Creator of the Universe the “Great I Am” and even in the midst of your dark days you will come to know just who you are “JESUS BELOVED CHILD” you do matter!

To Become A Child Again

John 13.jpgIn the Gospel of John, Jesus is preparing his disciples of things that were about to happen to him with being handing over to sinners and then crucified. Now the Son of Man is glorified and God is glorified in him. If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once. My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you: Where I am going, you cannot come. ” A new command I give you, Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.                                                   John 13:31-35

Why is that adults simply cannot love others they way they seem to love themselves, at times they look to another with such hatred. Adults just seem to judge someone because of someone’s race, age, being rich or poor, the color of their eyes, how smart they are and believe me the list of the judgement seems to go on and on for way too long, all because someone is different from themselves. Hasn’t anyone ever notice that God created us in His image but not to look the same as someone else. If you think back when you were a child did it matter at all what another child look like, how rich or poor they may be, or did you simply look at the other child and think to yourself how you would like to have a playmate to play with, if you answer is yes like most of us would answer, then tell me what happen in between being a child and becoming an adult they too many times we seem to have hatred in our hearts all because someone is different from us.

God is love, that is why when you read in John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son (Jesus) into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.                      John 3:16-17

Jesus was without sin, a man who had no home to call his own, and what he had done was always good for another human being and even dying on the cross, why so we as sinners will not perish after leaving this earth, but that we will be reunited with our Heavenly Father for all of eternity. And what did he seem to do with anyone who was a little difference he simply love them.

You have heard that it was said Love your neighbor and hate your enemy., But I tell you love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.  Matthew 5:44   Is it ever easy to love your enemy no it is not, and if it was everyone would do it and they don’t. What is a Christian–it is someone who is a follower (disciple) of Jesus Christ so if we call ourselves a Christian shouldn’t we love all people, just as Jesus would. This is why as Christian we need to have a walk with Christ, to help us to love all, in order for any of us to do the will of the Father we need to have a walk with the Son. In the book of Ephesians chapter 6 Paul tells us to put on the Full Armor of God because our struggles is not against  flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the power of this dark world. You need to understand that is satan w wants to destroy this world, to destroy families, friendship anyway he can. For you and me Paul tells us to Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions. So put down any hatred you have in your heart for anyone and put on the heart of love and compassion for another one of God’s beautiful creation.

Praise the Lord, my soul

Psalm 103.jpgThere are times in our lives when we find it difficult to Praise our Lord, when our pain within the very being of our soul, that is when we find it so difficult. This is when I find that reading the book of Psalm brings me comfort. King David was one of the writers for this book, it is a book that is filled with prayers, many prayers, as well as songs that truly express the full range of human emotion, that we all seem to go thru. It represent personal journals of the different writers and their relationship with God. The thoughts and feelings they express helps people like you and me draw near to the Lord just like they did. I personally have been on a difficult journey in my own life, just trying to understand it all, and how painful this has been and still is, and not having answers of where I am going and just trying to understand it all. As I opened up my Bible and just thinking of what I want to say to God and longing for that deep relationship with him, I came across these words that King David wrote and it reminds me of myself.

Praise the Lord, my soul, all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—-who forgives all your sins, and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things, so that your youth is renewed light the eagles. The Lord works righteousness and justice for all oppressed. He made known his ways to Moses; his deeds to the people of Israel: The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever, he does not treat us as our sins deserve, or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth so great is his love for those who fear him, as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him, for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field, the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children–with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding who obey his word. Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will. Praise the Lord, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the Lord, my soul.             (Psalm 103 NIV)

It really doesn’t matter where I am going, or how long it all may take me, all I need to do is simply Trust My Lord day by day.

The storms in our lives can be very, and I mean very painful, and today early this morning thru my own tears of disappointment in human beings, these words I have sung many times before flood my mind. As I ask the why questions we all seem to ask sometime during our own life, why my Lord. Have I disappoint people in what I have done or perhaps of what I have said. The words in scriptures that have come to me more than once are as follows.

Then Peter came to Jesus and ask Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times? Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times but seventy-seven times. (Matthew 18:21-22) If we feel the need to ask forgiveness from God why then is it so difficult for humans to forgive one another. Why do we feel that it is okay to judge someone knowing we are totally far from perfect and we all have fallen short in so many ways. I praise God that he is a forgiving God especially with all of my faults and the many sins I have committed in the past or will in the future. I only wish people in general in all walk of life, would find it in their own heart to forgive each other.
