“That day when evening came, Jesus said to his disciples.,” Let us go over the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious storm came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown. He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Peace! Be Still” Then the wind dies down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith? They were terrified and asked each other. “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” Mark 4:35-41 NIV These words in the Gospel of Mark, talked about Jesus’ disciples who became so afraid because of the storm that they were facing, reminded me with the storms we all face during different times of our lives. No one here on earth is ever perfect neither is their lives, oh yes they may tell you everything is wonderful, but truth can be told not really. When we are children most of us can say that while growing up you had no worries at all, we ran and play, attend school, and perhaps church, until a storm becomes so real to us. Perhaps during all of your childhood you didn’t face some kind of tragedy, but eventually you will, just like all of us do. It is the way we all seem to handle life storms, do we run and hide, and cry out Lord save me!, sounds familiar to you, I have said this and perhaps you as well. Many such storms are the death of someone you loved very much and you feel as through you simply can not go on, overtime with God’s help you will be an overcomer. When financial difficulties come around and you simply don’t know how you are going to make this months bills, and somehow you do, that is when you are an overcomer. Sickness for you or someone you love, such as myself with a child with chronic illness and more than one. I try to remind myself in the middle of the storm that is going crazy all around me, just to ‘BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD”
PRAISE THE LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary
Praise him in his mighty heavens,
Praise him for his acts of power,
Praise him for his surpassing greatness.
Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
Praise him with the harp and lyre,
Praise him with timbrel and dancing
Praise him with the strings and pipe,
Praise him with the clash of cymbals.
Let everything that has breath, praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord (Psalm 150 NIV)
The book of Psalm is a book of poetry, it is filled with prayers, and songs, that express the full range of human emotions. The psalm represent personal journals of the writers’ relationship with God. The thoughts and feelings they express help their readers draw near to the Lord as well. Some of there psalms were used in public worship services.
“The genre of Psalms is Songs and Poetry of all kinds. It is written by multiple authors; David wrote 73, Asaph wrote 12, the sons of Korah wrote 9, Solomon wrote 3, Ethan, and Moses each wrote one (Ps. 90), and 51 of the Psalms are anonymous. They were written over the span of approximately 900 years (Beginning at the time of Moses 1440 B.C. and through the captivity in 586 B.C.).” From Biblehub.com. Worship can and is a beautiful thing, when we sing Praise to our Lord Jesus Christ. When we come into worship rather it is on a Sunday morning or any day of the week, we just focus on God and God only. There is a song I learn years ago which is Turn your Eyes Upon Jesus. Listen to it below, and while doing it try not to think of anyone or anything in your life, sing it to the Risen Lord, overtime when we come to worship time that time will be precious for you and God alone.
Grace and peace my sweet friends.
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea, Philippi. he ask his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is? They replied, “Some say John the Baptist: others say Elijah: and still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” But what about you? he asked Who do you say I am? Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, ” Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gate of Hades, will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah. ( Matthew 16:13-20)
If Jesus was walking the earth today as he did so many years ago would any of us recognize him? Would we be willing to following like Peter, James, John, Matthew, and the other disciples did, to wondering who is this strange man and what is the Kingdom of God all about, or we would just go thru life not curious at all. None of us today can truly understand or know what any of Jesus disciples could of been be thinking at that time. They all were willing to give up everything they ever knew and just follow him why because Jesus said come follow me and I will make you fishers of men. Could you or I be willing to give up our jobs, family, friends and all we knew of to do the same to , I would like to think I would no doubt what so ever. I grew up in a church learning about God the father, Jesus his Son, and the Holy Spirit, the Holy Trinity. I went thru the motions but did I truly know Christ at all, the older I have become I began to ask the question like so many others also have, is this all there is to life, what on earth was I born for, what is the reason I am here. Many years ago I had read more than once the Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren as well as You were born for This, two great books to read. So I began to search over and over, seeking to know and understand God more than I ever did before. I was always involved in my church in one way or another but over the last few years my hunger to understand God’s word the Bible grew inside of me, the more I read and understand the more I want to learn more and more about who this Jesus was, and is and forever will be. For me I can truly say Jesus you are the Messiah the Son of our Living God. The Jesus who went so willing to the cross to die in my place, if you ever wondering how much Jesus loves you, he spread out his arms to be nail to a cross and died in your and my place, that is how much he loves us. Someone once ask me, Eileen, how do you know that God truly does exist, my replied, I know that I know deep within my heart he does. Look all around you right where you are, yes their are things they may look ugly but, my friend look pass it, look with your heart besides your eyes, to see all the beauty that God has created for us in this world. Springtime will be here soon when all the things we know of begin to bloom, look in the eyes of your child with all of their wonder, let me tell you ask a little one this question is God real? and they will tell you of course he is real mommy or daddy he lives within my heart. (wow) Take a walk if you can in the mountains, along the ocean, in a city, anywhere and you will see all the beauty that God has created for you and me.
Jesus is asking You and Me, who do you say that I am
ME: YOU ARE THE MESSIAH, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD
Grace and peace to you my friends
A few months ago, I attended a class on preaching. The teacher of this class asks all of the students, tell me in a few short words what does the gospel mean to you. Well I answered pretty quickly and said the Gospel is God’s Love Letters to us. It is not just any old book that is filled with stories, but it is a book of God’s instructions of how we should live our lives day by day. It is a book that contains many books inside of it. Their are 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament, which makes a total of 66 books in all. I read the bible at least once a day, and sometimes more than once a day, just reading along with a devotion, and more important for me to grow a deeper understanding of who God is and why his love for me a sinner is unconditional. When life seems so overwhelming to me, I turn to this book for answers for my own life. When I am tired, when I feel I am not smart enough like others, when I can’t forgive myself for something I have done, I turn to find the answers. When I asked myself in the past can anyone love me just because who I am with no strings attached, when I feel lonely even in a crowd of people, does anyone care. There have been times in my life when I feel I can’t or don’t care to go forward and somewhere in the depth of my soul, my soul cries out Abba Father. Lord are you there, do you even care for me, I know you are so busy with more important things than me. Sometimes the nights seem so long, so very long I wonder when will the morning come, because my soul longs to rest. It is during these times that different scriptures have come to my mind and my heart and I would like to share them with you.
You Say: God says: Bible Verse:
“It’s impossible” “All things are possible” Luke 18:27 “I’m too tired” “I will give you rest” Matthew 11:28-30 “Nobody loves me” ” I love you” John 3:16 “I can’t go on” “My grace is sufficient” 2 Corinthians 12:9 “I can’t figure it out” “I will direct your steps” Proverbs 3:5-6 “I can’t do it” “You can do all things” Philippians 4:13 “I’m not able” ” | am able” 2 Corinthians 9:8 “It’s not worth it” “It will be worth it” Romans 8:28 “I can’t forgive myself” “I forgive you” Romans 8:1 “I’m afraid” “I have not given you fear” 2 Timothy 1:7 “I’m always worried” “Cast all your cares on Me” 1 Peter 5:7 “I’m not smart enough” “I will give you wisdom” 1 Corinthians 1:30 “I feel alone” “I will never leave you” Hebrews 13:5 “I can’t manage” “I will supply all your needs” Philippians 4:19
These scriptures has been my inspiration over the many years of my journey with Christ , and as they have also given me comfort and peace, they will due the same thing for you. Once we as Christians accept who Jesus was and is and forever will be, which is the Messiah, the Great I Am, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, these words will give you the comfort and peace and encouragement on a daily basis.
Grace and Peace to you my friend
