The Great Discovery

John 4 16.png“Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samarians  worship what you do not know, we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. The woman said, “I know that the Messiah (called Christ)” is coming. When he comes he will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you–I am he,”     John 4:21-26

A sobering revelation now dawns on the woman at the well: It was quite possible to be in contact with the Lord for years and still not made the Great Discovery. For example, Job thought he was a godly man because he could defend God and his faith. Then God revealed Himself to Job and he confessed, “I had only heard about You before, but now I have seen You with my own eyes. I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.” (Job 42:5-6) When Isaiah saw God in the Temple, his reaction was, “It’s all over! I am doomed, for I am a sinful man. Yet I have seen the King, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies!” (Isaiah 6:5)

This type of meeting not only makes us aware of our own weaknesses, but also of our inability to save ourselves. Only Christ can save us-this is as clear as day. In our own strength we are doomed to fail. God has a wonderful plan with our lives; we only have to become aware of it, like the sinful woman at the well did. The Lord does not necessary use competent people,,, He equips those He uses. Then this former ignorance becomes a song of jubilation; a song of incredible joy. “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! The ignorance of the past makes room for a great discovery.

God’s Holy Whispers

1 Kings 19.pngAnd the word of the Lord came to him. “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He replied, I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too. The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.                    (1 Kings 19:9b-12)

God is the Creator of the Universe, yet he choose to make His humble home in our hearts. It is there you know him most intimately, it is there God speaks to you and me in holy whispers. He knows this is more than we can even imagine, that someone so great and majestic would choose to live in someone so small and even so sinful. It is even so hard for me to imagine you Lord living within my heart, it is something at times that I struggle with to understand. Yet in spite of my short comings and regardless of me being a sinner you choose to dwell within my heart. It is times like this Lord in the quiet of the morning or perhaps in the evening that my spirit longs to be with just you. It is during these times my spirit hungry to hear your voice in guiding me to understand the “Great I Am”.  You are living in my heart because you deeply desire intimacy with me and I with you. I know that I am weak, and easily distracted by so many things in this world. Yet I want you to help me to hear your gentle whispers in my heart. I need to be still and very quite during these times to feel your presence, to Be Still and Know that I Am God (Psalm 46:10)

I AM

MosesMoses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law and he lead the flock to the far side of the wildness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in the flames of fire from within. Moses saw that through the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought I will go over and see this strange sight–why the bush does not burn up. When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush. Moses! Moses! and Moses said “Here I am” Do not come any closer God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground. Then he said ” I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God. (Exodus 3:1-6) The Lord said to Moses I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. God wanted Moses to go and free his people from the Egyptian, and like so many of us today when God is calling us to do a job, what do we say not me Lord, send someone else. But in the time of Moses God had intending choosing him for this job.

Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they ask me, “What is his name? Then what shall I tell them? God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites, I am has sent me to you. God also said to Moses, Say to the Israelites, The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.  This is my name forever, the name you shall call me, from generation  to generation.                                   (Exodus 3:13-15)

Who is the Great I Am, over the next few writing I will share with you from Lysa Terkeurst book Finding I Am. This is a wonderful study for anyone who is seeking to find out who is the Great I AM.

A Morning Devotion

devotion 1.pngIt is early morning Lord, the sun is not awake to greet the start of the day. As I sit I begin to meditate on your words. As I read in the book of Joshua 1:8-9 Keep this book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

These are wonderful words to read and to just sit and to think that whatever I may go thru during this day, rather good or bad, I will not be alone for you do go with me. If I am on a mountain Lord you are there, if I am down in the deepest part of a ocean, Lord you are there, if I am down in a pit Lord, you are there. O Lord there is no place here on your earth that I could ever hid from or try so hard to be away from everything or anyone because Lord, you are with me everywhere. Your words are comfort for my soul as I meditate on them in Hebrews 13:5 it tells us that Never will You leave me, never will You forsake me. Lord no matter what sins I have ever committed in my life now or in the future your love will never stop. Your love for me as your child is unconditional, and my soul Rejoice in your Love. As I remember the words in Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always, again I will say rejoice!, and that is what I choose for this day.

Amen

Jesus Talks With a Samaritan Woman

Woman at the well.pngIn the gospel of John in the fourth chapter, Jesus and his disciples were in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. While his disciples set off to buy some food that a Samaria woman came to draw some water from the well. Jesus ask the woman to give him a drink? The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink? (For Jews do not associate with the Samaritans) Jesus answered her by saying ” If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water. So the woman wanted to know from Jesus how can she get this living water that he is talking about, and if he is greater than their father Jacob who gave them the well and drank from it himself, as also his sons and livestock. Jesus then reply everyone who drinks the water from the well will become thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water that I give them will never thirst. Indeed the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life. The woman ask Jesus to give her this water that he is talking about, then Jesus went on to tell her to go and get your husband and she told him I have no husband. However that is not the end of the story, Jesus went on telling the Samaria woman the many men she had and the man she is with is not her husband, I can tell you this much I am sure she was very surprise that Jesus knew everything about her. She wanted to know if Jesus was a prophet, but he is the Messiah, but she reply that Jews claims that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem. Jesus replied believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on the mountain or in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know, we worship what we do know. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in the Spirit. God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in the Spirit and truth.  Her reply is that I know that the Messiah (called Christ) is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us. Then Jesus declared I am the one speaking to you, I am He.” After her conversation with Jesus, the woman went back to her village to share with all who would listen what Jesus had said as well as what Jesus knew about her. Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony. They had ask Jesus to stay with them and he did for another two days and more become believers. They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said, now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.

Jesus didn’t just come to earth for some people, certain kinds of people, he came for all might be saved. Scriptures tells us that God so Loved the world, he didn’t say part of the world, the whole world, that he sent his son Jesus. We as Christians in today’s world need to share our own experiences why we believe the way we do. What is that one thing in your own life that allows you to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the Living God. To continue to walk with our savior each and everyday we need to spend time with him in scriptures as well as in prayer. When we do walk with Christ each day we need not worry of what to say to someone because the Spirit will do the speaking for us. As we continue to journey together let us think about this season of lent, and continue to understand why our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ had to die on the cross for all mankind
