Time Alone With God

Psalm 63.png

You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you. I thirst for you, my while being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods, with singing lips my mouth will praise you. On my bed I remember you: I think of you through the watched of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings, I cling to you; your right hand upholds me will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth. They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals. But the king will rejoice in God, all who swear by God will glory in him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced.

Psalm 63:1-11

Perhaps these days we can do with the advice Christ gives to us, because many of us don’t have a place for our quiet time, a quiet room where we can bear our souls to God. It’s not about the room, but about the quiet moments we spend alone with God. When I started my blog a little over two years ago it was because of a class in ministry that I was involved with, and after thinking about the name I came up with Quiet Moments With God. For myself I enjoy a good hot cup of tea, where I take my cup and my Bible head onto my back deck (if the weather is okay) and just be along with my Lord. Life is so demanding these days that we truly need the time along with him. We have a hundred responsibilities in and outside home, as well as our Christian activities, perhaps holding down a job and running around with our children. In many houses there is no such thing as a quiet room anymore.

Because of this, it is difficult to concentrate, introspection becomes rare and we don’t feel the need to withdraws from the buzz of the world as much, and to find strength in fellowship with God. We know that this results in spiritual impoverishment. We can only stay strong and powerful in our deepest being through solitary fellowship with God. When you are alone behind a closed door to escape from the world with its pressing problems you should not even leave the door ajar. If you do, you can be sure that the world will follow you and disturb your quiet time.

What it boils down to is that we need to have a closed door between us and the world outside. Even the presence of a best friend is a hindrance. If ever anyone knew how to pray it was Jesus, and yet He withdrew from the circle of His most trusted apostles to spend the entire night alone on a solitary mountaintop in prayer with His Father. This is what it means to ‘shut the door behind you.”

In the Gospel of Mark 1:35 he tells us that very early in the morning while it was still dark, Jesus got up left the house and went off to a solitary place to prayed. So if Jesus knew how important prayer was while he was here on earth, and how important to stay connected to His Heavenly Father is, shouldn’t we do the same.

Ask, Seek, Knock

Matthew 7.png    These are the words from Jesus according to the Gospel of Matthew 7:7-12 Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who ask receives; and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish will give him a snake? If you, then, through you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Anyone who prays would like to know what kind of God they are praying to. They want to know in what kind of atmosphere their prayers are heard. Do they pray to such a kind-hearted God that He is more willing to give them they are to receive? Jesus was born into a nation that loved prayer and He learnt to cherish prayer. In this part Jesus gives us the Christian principle of prayer.

Jesus’ examples are carefully chosen. Matthew mentions to and Luke adds another one. If children ask for bread, would their father give them a stone? (of course not) If they ask for a fish, would he give them a snake, or a scorpion of they ask for an egg? Small stones on the seashore looked just like small loaves of bread. The snake mentioned here probably refers to an eel that was forbidden food according to Leviticus 11:12 which can be found in the Old Testament. A scorpion looks very much like an egg when it is falling asleep, but it is deadly when it wakes up.

God will never refuse to listen to our prayers, or ridicule them. The lesson here is that God will always hear our prayers, but He will answer them in His way. His way is the way of the perfect wisdom and perfect love. Jesus says we must persevere always because the test of our sincerity lies in this. God will always answer our prayers in the way He sees fit, in wisdom and in love. We must continue praying to God and never stopping. For prayer to a Christian life is just as important as the air we need to breathe each and everyday of our lives. For in prayer we begin to grow closer to God in our daily journey.

God’s Plans

Jeremiah 29.pngFor I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.                                     Jeremiah 29:11-13

You and I will try as hard as we can to plan for our future, all along thinking we know what is best for us, guess what we are wrong. Just as much for whatever anyone is going through right at this very second that we long things to be different. Not knowing all along that God has a plan for his children and his plan is perfect each and every time, and whatever anyone is going through in your own life right now God will change it all for his glorification  in his own time. God can fix everything into his majestic plan for good, including the things we wish were different. How you or I long to see that all embracing pattern and if God would show it to us we truly would not understand it. Your current situation feels like a gigantic mistake to you, something you should have been able to prevent. God wants you not to indulge in obsessing about what you could have done differently. The past is something you or I cannot change and our future belongs in the hands of God. Right now is the only place to begin anew. It’s the unique intersection of time and space location where I intend you or I to live. Some things and for that matter many things maybe beyond us, but we can live joyfully knowing that God is in control and His plans are always better than our own. Instead of worry about what tomorrow will bring let us just put all of our worries and concerns in God’s hands and believe me what I say this for when  we do we will never be disappointed.

God Remembers Your Sins No More!

Isaiah 43.pngWash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight; stop doing wrong. Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow. “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Through your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; through they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.                       Isaiah 1:16-18

I enjoy reading many books by Max Lucado a Christian author, and I have been reading his one book called “God Came Near” during this advent season. In the one chapter that I have read which is called “He Forgot” it made be think of the words from the book of Isaiah 43:25 I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my won sake, and remember your sins no more. Wow, Now that is something to talk about, God doesn’t just forgive us for our sins, he forgets them, he erases the board, he destroys the evidence. He doesn’t remember our mistakes. ( I can say thank goodness). For all the things he does do, this is one thing he refuses to do. He refuses to keep a list of our wrongs. When we ask for forgiveness, he doesn’t pull out a clipboard and say,” But I’ve already forgiven you for that at least a hundred times.” He doesn’t remember. ” As far as the east is from the west, so far he has removed our transgressions from us. Psalms 103:12 Do you think God is the voice that reminds you of the putridness of your past? Do you think God was teasing when he said “I remember your sins no more? Do you actually believe he would make a statement like ” I will not hold their in iniquities against them” and then rub our noses in them whenever we ask for help? Of course you don’t. You and I just need an occasional reminder of God’s nature, his forgetful nature. Think about this for a moment, if he didn’t forget our sins, how could we pray to him, or better yet worship him and sing praises to him, God is the “Great I Am”.  Let us remember the scriptures I shared with you as well as another from Hebrews 8:12 For I will forgive their wickedness, and will remember their sins no more.”

I Seek Your Face

Psalm 105.pngGive Praise to the Lord, proclaim his name, make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him, tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Look to the Lord and his strength, seek his face always.                                                  Psalm 105:1-4

I do not feel guilty Lord spending each day alone with you, I do not want to share this time with anyone but you, because I seek your face. I am simply responding to the tugs of divinity within me. You made me in your imagine Lord and you have hidden heaven within my heart. Much of this world is actually longing for the perfection of heaven. Sin is often a misguided attempt to fill the emptiness created by that longing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of so many of the unbelievers so that they search for heaven in all the wrong places. However, even great sinners such as myself Lord can be transformed into exceptional Christians when I have turn my passionate towards you Lord. Your love and forgiveness satisfy my soul-hunger as nothing else can, so it is good that I continue to yearn for you. I was never designed to find total satisfaction in the here and now, because I was created in Your imagine. I come to worship you for you are worthy of my praise, your name is Holy because it represents you Lord and that is who you are. I bow down and look unto the ground, since I am a sinner I feel unworthy to look into your face. However Jesus your name is above every name here on earth and in heaven that I bow to give you all the honor and glory because of your love for me. My soul dances and I sing for joy for you are the “Great I Am” the one who simply loves me because I am your child, I am the daughter of the Most high King which is Jesus Christ. So each day my soul simply longs for that time that I can run and hide and spend as much time as possible alone with you, and holding onto every word you place upon my heart to remember. And when this world of craziness seems more than I can handle, I will always remember I have a loving Savior where I can always run to and simply hide myself in thee, and “Seek Your Face.”

God Has Created This World For All!

Isaiah 45.pngFor this is what the Lord says-he who created the heavens, his is God, he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it, he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited- he says: “I am the Lord, and there is no other. I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacob’s descendants, Seek me in vain, I, the Lord, speak the truth; I declare what is right.                 Isaiah 45:18-19

As I read these words from the prophet Isaiah I think of the ten commandments that God gave to Moses years before hand. He wrote these commandments with his finger so that once all reads them we will engrave them in our hearts forever. Read Exodus 20:1-3 and God spoke all these words. “I am the Lord, your God, who brought you out of Egypt, and out of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me. In other words it is wrong for us to made anyone a God in our eyes for their is only one True God. We do not worship another person or thing as a God. Try to imagine if you would long ago before anything exist as we know, than God spoke a word and things came to past. He made the heavens and the earth for man and woman pleasure, and he also made us the keepers of this earth to care and love all living things, creatures and one another.  Sometimes as a drive by different areas I am amazed at how dirty things have become, I ask myself is this the way we would care for our homes and if the answer is of course not, so than why do we treat God’s world like things. Garbage toss on the ground like it was a garbage can, into our oceans and lakes killing living things and I just don’t understand why humans enjoy doing this and more important why don’t some even care at all. God is a God who loves all of his children unconditional, he created this world for us to enjoy can we all take care of it and all things as if they were our own personal treasures because all of this is our treasure and a gift from God. It is a reminder how much he loves us and how precious we are to him.

Seek God Always

1 Chronicles 16.jpgGive praise to the Lord, proclaim his name, make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him, tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced, you his servants, the descendants of Israel, his chosen ones, the children of Jacob. He is the Lord your God; his judgments in all the earth.

(1 Chronicles 16:8-14)

The book of 1 Chronicles which is from the Old Testament and opens with the most genealogical record in the Bible, and then adds many incidents from the life of David. It was written for the exiles who had return to Israel after the Babylonian captivity. It’s purpose was to remind them they were from the royal line of David and that they were God’s chosen people.

Did you know that you and I are God’s chosen people, isn’t that amazing to hear, that you are not a nobody you are someone that God has already chosen even long before you were born or hear about who God is!  This is what we as Methodist call Prevenient Grace: the Grace that comes to us before we know God-the porch before we enter into a house. God showers it upon all people whether they are aware of it or not. Through prevenient grace, God takes the initiative in beginning a relationship with us. Prevenient grace is God’s way of showing us that no matter who we are or where we are, God is already there ahead of us, waiting for us. God’s prevenient grace precedes us wherever we go.  As I was read and meditating on this book from the Old Testament it is telling us to seek God’s face always, not only when a need arise and we need God at that very moment in time, but to always seek God’s face. To sing your praises to God and God alone, not an human because they are never worthy of anyone praises. Remember what he has done for us. You maybe saying to yourself, what has God done for me, let me go ahead and tell you my friend. God loves us so much he sent his one and only son Jesus into this world to die for the sins of all mankind (John 3:16) Everyone good and perfect gift that you have ever receive has come from God: such as food, clothing, housing, job, family, friends and the list truly goes on for all of us. Let us remember that God has never and I mean never broken a promise to his children, I can’t say that for us, we have all broken many promises that we have made to God over the years. In spite that we continue to sin against one another and God doesn’t stop God from loving us, because he truly knows our hearts. Once you have accept his son Jesus Christ as your personal Savior forever I can tell you that Never will He leave you, nor Never will He forsake you (Hebrews 13:5) Jesus has already taken the first step long before you were born to die for you because of your sins, won’t you take the next step and ask him into your heart forever, and believe me when I tell you that you will never regret of become a Christian, a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Dear Jesus

Thank you for dying on the cross for all my sins and loving me even when I have not  love myself. I ask you into my heart to live forever, help me to become the person that you has design me to be.

In Jesus Name I Pray

Amen
