THE WHITE STOCKING (adapted by Carolyn Cox, Canberra)

‘Twas the night before Christmas as I walked through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.

The presents had been wrapped and placed under the tree

I paused, tired, excited, and then giggled with glee.

The stockings were hanging and were beautifully filled

No one had been forgotten, though the credit card was billed.

As I looked at the scene with the stockings on the ledge.

I noticed one was empty, the one on the edge.

Where’s the Spirit of Christmas – What have I done?

The children’s stockings are all full, except for this one

It was the stocking intended for the child of Bethlehem.

The White stocking for Jesus that was hung up by them.

Of all the people at Christmas, that might be forgotten

How could I not remember the Fathers Only Begotten?

Only He had been left out of the festivities.

As we planned and prepared all, for our families.

As I pondered, I realized this just was not right!

It was His birth that was being celebrated, after this night

I resolved then and there to remember the Lord

And quickly made changes that were easy to afford.

I hung the white stocking in a special place in our home.

And corrected the atmosphere to provide a more spiritual tone.

On Christmas morning I gathered the family together

And each of us wrote on a special piece of paper,

We gave Jesus a gift which we placed in the stocking.

A sincere change of heart, not there for the mocking.

The white stocking hung in our home as a symbol for us

Of the true meaning of Christmas – the Savior, The Lord Jesus

So take your white stocking and hang it with pride

Remember the Savior, put his gift inside

Parable of the Mustard Seed

untitled mustard seed.png Read Matthew 13:31-32

Jesus told his disciples another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Through it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”

Jesus used parables often and to great effect. Parables were a good way to teach and Jesus was good at telling them. The enemies of Jesus were always waiting for him to say something they could use against him. ( Matthew 13:34-35) Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet:

I will open my mouth in parables,

I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.  (Psalm 78:2, and also the new Testament  1 Corinthians 2:7)

What Jesus was teaching his disciples and even us today is that we just need to have faith as tiny as a mustard seed to believe. Too many times people would say show it to me and I will believe it, however Jesus was telling us the opposite. You need to believe first, that is the start to having faith. If we look at the clouds and different things in the sky we know when rain or snow is coming, we can feel the wind all around us. However when it comes to believing people want proof. Lets talk a good look around our world, pass any of the terrible things we have seen and what the news has put on our TV, computers, newspaper, and let us look at the beauty that God has created for his children. It’s winter now, and even thro the bad weather can be dangerous to drive or walk in for many, we can see how white the snow is. When I look around my home with the snow, I see that the earth is asleep for now until springtime, but these words come to my mind. Through your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow ( Isaiah 1:18) God has wipe my sins away and I am now white as snow, and he has done this thru his one and only son Jesus Christ who died on the cross for all who believes. Have you ever listen to a small child, I mean really listen to them, they are not afraid to believe in God who they can’t see with their own eyes, however they can feel him in their hearts. I have taught Sunday School and lead Vacation Bible School for many years, and the one thing I can truly say it is not always what I have taught them it is what they have taught me along the way about faith. I remember when I began to teach Sunday School in my early twenties, and it was the kindergarten class, ( a little child could see that I had been  crying from a difficult time I was going thru)  and the little boy came up and gave me wild flowers, and told me these words, I love you, things will get better. I knew in my spirit that it was God speaking thru this little boys to give me words of encouragement, and to remind me how much he truly loves me, and yes he truly loves you, just because you are his son or daughter and for no other reason. Over the next few writings on my blog I will share and talk with you more on having a tiny seed of faith.
